Diana Magesa
Fashion can change how we see the world. Diana Magesa believes it can help change the world itself.
One of Tanzania's pioneering fashion artists and costume designers, Diana Magesa has spent more than a decade transforming discarded materials into extraordinary works of wearable art. Based in Morogoro, her practice combines fashion, environmental activism and community empowerment, creating dramatic costumes and contemporary designs for fashion, film and music while proving that waste can become beauty. Diana first gained international recognition after designing Tanzania's award-winning Best National Costume at Miss Earth 2009, a landmark achievement for the country, and has since represented Tanzania at numerous international fashion platforms.
Her work extends far beyond the runway. Through beach clean-up initiatives, environmental education and skills training for women and young people, Diana Magesa is building a circular fashion movement that transforms recycled materials into opportunity, employment and artistic expression.
Exhibiting at Africa Fashion Week London 2026, Diana Magesa presents fashion that is imaginative, sustainable and deeply purposeful—where every creation gives new life to forgotten materials and every garment tells a story of transformation.
