Silungile Mokoena, Sluvin Designs, South Africa.
“Participating at AFWL has grown my brand in many ways, such as improving brand visibility worldwide through their media partners who always post our participation and tag my brand, which has made it possible for my brand to reach a clientele that I would have never reached without my participation.
The professionalism of the event itself made it easy for me to get assistance when sending proposals for funding to pay for my participation. Most sponsors take time to check the event's credibility before deciding whether they will assist you or not, but with AFWL they are always happy to fund it.”

Mary Martin, Mary Martin London
“As I make wearable art, AFWL has been the flagship to the world, growing the Mary Martin London brand to an international market and providing customers globally.
It has not been an easy ride, but with determination, staying power, and the unwavering belief of AFWL's Queen Ronke, travelling around the world has truly put me on the map as an international fashion icon.
Now, as I seek investors to help the brand reach its full potential, the foundation AFWL provides is invaluable."

Samson Soboye, Soboye
“It has truly been a pleasure to be part of Africa Fashion Week London. My experience at AFWL has been both inspiring and empowering — it has offered a brilliant platform to showcase my work to a diverse and supportive audience, and the exposure has significantly elevated the visibility of my brand.
Some special highlights for me have been the honour of dressing Zozi Tunzi and Hollywood Actor, Anthony Anderson, which added an exciting level of prestige to the event. Sharing the runway applause with my mother at AFWL19 was a very special memory I will always cherish, especially as my father had passed away the year before.
Another unforgettable moment was made last year when Queen Ronke and I delighted audiences walking the catwalk at the end of my Black Majesty collection showcase.
I would be happy to support the next generation of African-inspired designers through mentorship or moral support. Initiatives like this are vital for nurturing talent and keeping our creative community thriving.
Wishing you continued success and looking forward to future collaborations.”

“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to showcase my work at AFWL. Craft has been my passion since I was in secondary school. I was amazed by the positive and encouraging comments made by the crowd about how well organised the event was and how beautiful my items were.
The event on Saturday was fantastic - it also allowed me to liaise with other stallholders. I am looking forward to being a part of the show next year. Thank you once again. ”

“AFWL is a transformational platform for anyone who studies fashion in the UK. The opportunity provided to learn more about emerging & established African Designers is outstanding.
As a company, the support given to The University of Northampton’s fashion department & students is immeasurable, for all of our students, not just those of African descent.
The collaboration we have established raises the aspirations and supports our alumni, alongside enabling an understanding and appreciation of African Fashion.”

Gavin Douglas, Programme Leader of the BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Technology, Manchester Metropolitan University
Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) is more than just an annual event; it’s an energetic and dynamic celebration of creativity and talent that provides a sustained platform for fashion designers and creatives of the African diaspora. The event not only allows designers and creatives to showcase their work and talents but also provides a unique opportunity to do so alongside their peers, as part of a wider, supportive collective.
AFWL has shown a strong commitment to breaking down social and political barriers that might otherwise prevent its fashion creatives from showcasing their work and talents on a wider professional platform. It has opened doors for talented designers, models and photographers, providing a much-needed opportunity where they can gain exposure and build relationships that propel their careers forward. As AFWL continues to grow, it remains deeply rooted in its mission to uplift talent from the diaspora, ensuring that their contributions are not only seen but celebrated. The catwalk event is a crucial part of a broader movement to make the fashion industry more inclusive, diverse, and representative of all voices.
The holistic approach of AFWL also supports designers beyond the catwalk event; the organisers understand that success in the fashion industry requires more than just creative talent, AFWL also offers a comprehensive suite of industry-led workshops, networking opportunities, and educational resources. These initiatives equip creatives with the practical tools and business acumen they need to navigate the fashion world successfully. By fostering growth, encouraging entrepreneurship, and nurturing the next generation of designers, AFWL empowers these creatives to reach their full potential and to lead the charge in transforming the global fashion industry.

Steve Mandy, Wales / South Africa
“Hi Ronke, I hope you remember me, I was part of AFWL 2013 and 2015. I did hand-painted garments on the runway.
I am living in Wales now and will be delivering my first workshop in the UK starting on 5 November. 2024. It’s going to be an epic 4 module course in fabric painting, bleach painting and clothing upcycling which culminates in a fashion show in Haverfordwest, Wales on their Winter fair event.
Just wanted you to know that 10 years on, there are still things happening for me which started with AFWL 2013.”
