Winchester School of Art:

MA Fashion Design and MA Textile Design

Soboye Re:Imagined

In conjunction with Africa Fashion Week 2025, the MA Fashion Design and MA Textile Design programmes at Winchester School of Art present Turn Up The Tartan, a vibrant intersection of creativity, diversity, and cultural exploration. Showcasing students’ boundary-pushing journey through the exciting fusion of Scottish and African heritage. Classic Tartan patterns collide with African print traditions, resulting in contemporary cutting-edge design.

Students worked in collaboration with renowned designer Samson Soboye and Professor Jonathan Faiers, the author of Tartan. This synergistic collection demonstrates disruption and divergence, utilising heritage and digital textile processes as well as creative, transformative pattern cutting, encompassing zero-waste techniques. It is in this way that traditional and contemporary methodologies are combined, in the pursuit of fashion and textile designs that evidence ethical practice and aesthetic innovation.

This year, it is the culmination of 27 MA Fashion Design students and 13 MA Textile Design students’ semester 1 work, a fantastic achievement.
