Matheo Studio
Matheo Studio is part of a new generation of African designers using fashion as cultural storytelling, artistic expression, and social commentary. Founded in Kigali by Rwandan designer Maurice Niyigena, the brand has gained recognition for its cinematic, Afrofuturist approach to fashion — blending avant-garde silhouettes, African narratives, and emotionally charged craftsmanship into collections that feel both visionary and deeply rooted in identity.
Supported by the British Council Creative DNA 2026 programme, Matheo Studio explores the intersection of fashion, costume design, sustainability, and African heritage. The designer’s work has been showcased at major platforms, including Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Kigali and international showcases connected to New York Fashion Week, helping position Rwanda’s creative scene within the global fashion conversation.
Known for dramatic storytelling and striking visual language, Matheo Studio creates garments that go beyond clothing — each piece becoming part of a larger narrative around memory, resilience, culture, and transformation. Recent collections such as Rebirth of Rwanda have explored themes of healing, survival, and national identity through hauntingly beautiful silhouettes, handcrafted detailing, and symbolic textile work.
