Edi Sessi
Edith Bidossessi Daassounon is a Beninese fashion designer, entrepreneur and Creative Director, best known as the founder of EDI SESSI, one of Benin's pioneering contemporary fashion houses.
Founded in 1997, EDI SESSI was born from a vision to reinterpret Beninese textile heritage through modern design. For nearly three decades, Edith has dedicated her career to creating collections that combine craftsmanship, innovation and contemporary African elegance.
Long before the promotion of Made in Benin became a national priority, she was already incorporating locally woven fabrics, raffia and hand-dyed textiles into sophisticated ready-to-wear and couture collections, helping redefine the perception of African textiles for everyday and luxury fashion alike.
Her creative research led to the development of Tweed Kanvoh, an innovative textile inspired by the traditional Beninese woven fabric Kanvoh and reinterpreted through the aesthetic codes of tweed. This innovation reflects her commitment to preserving traditional craftsmanship while creating new opportunities for contemporary textile development.
Throughout her career, Edith Bidossessi Daassounon has presented collections and participated in numerous fashion events, exhibitions and cultural initiatives promoting African creativity. Beyond design, she actively contributes to the professionalisation of Benin's fashion industry through collaborations with institutions, artisans and local manufacturers, while supporting the transmission of knowledge to younger generations of designers.
In 2025, she founded Benin Mode Monde, a platform dedicated to promoting Beninese fashion, strengthening industry collaboration and increasing the international visibility of emerging designers.
Today, Edith Bidossessi Daassounon continues to position EDI SESSI as a House where heritage, innovation and entrepreneurship converge, contributing to the emergence of a sustainable and internationally recognised African fashion industry.
